Top 5 Beauty Concerns Related To Pregnancy

This month, we are going to be addressing all concerns that all you mothers go through, before and after pregnancy. From hairfall, to pigmentation and stretch marks, my new blog talks about top 5 beauty concerns related to pregnancy and the best ways to solve them too.

1. Hairfall

One of the most noticeable changes post pregnancy is loss of hair. Most of us women have gone through acute hairfall and hair thinning.

Things You Can Do At Home

Apart from taking biotin and iron supplements, and making sure you get your fill of Omega-3 fatty acids (try avocados and salmon if you eat non-vegetarian food), make sure you stay away from hot tools and chemical treatments till hairball simmers down. Give yourself a scalp massage, don’t miss those hair spas and use an anti-dandruff shampoo to promote good hair health.

Treatments for Hairfall

Plasma rich therapy for PRP is a tried and tested treatment that has helped many of my patients.

How PRP Works: We draw out your blood from the scalp (sounds scary, but it isn’t), and then spun in a centrifuge which separates it into red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and plasma. The platelet rich plasma is then injected back into the scalp every session. This goes on for about 4-6 sessions and patients see a significant decrease in hairfall and increase in hair growth. Read our full blog or PRP for hair loss here to know more about it.

2. Stubborn, Unwanted Fat

Your body goes through a lot after delivery and for some of it, you may need external help.

Things You Can Do At Home

Eating healthy is non-negotiable. Check with the doctor (Ob-Gyn) and start light with walking, stretches. As time passes, go back to your exercise routine. Briskwalking, jogging and meditation are great alternatives to getting in shape.

Treatments For Stubborn Fat

While eating healthy, stretches and non-strenous activities are good for a new mom, you may want to consider fat freeze a few months later for problematic areas like thighs, waist and back. Using the CoolSculpting method, it is best to go for 4-6 sessions of fat freeze to see a significant improvement. Please note that it is important to maintain your weight for the treatment to promise lasting results so eat healthy! Read our full blog on fat freeze here.

3. Loss of Vaginal Elasticity and Incontinence

Child birth is a beautiful experience but the vagina can suffer from functional or aesthetic issues. The vaginal tissues and muscles keep changing due to normal imbalances and childbirth. As a result, it can lose its natural elasticity.

Speak to your Ob-Gyn for a session on Kegel exercises. Be consistent with them.

Treatment For Vaginal Rejuvenation

Our treatment, Luxe Femme Rejuvenation is one of the fastest radio frequency treatments available in the market. Due to heating at lower temperatures (compared to ablative lasers), there is minimal risk for infection or discharge. Women who suffer from incontinence or loss of elasticity have benefitted from this treatment.

4. Pigmentation

To put it plainly, pigmentation is the discolouration of the skin, resulting in the development of dark patches of spots. The affected area appears darker than the rest of the skin due to excessive melanin production.

Things You Can Do At Home

In order to avoid it, be regular with your sunscreen. Visit your dermatologist for a consult. She may prescribe OTC hydroquinone in liquid, cream or gel format. Topical creams with azelaic acid or kojic acid to help lighten melasma but please take the help of an expert instead of diagnosing yourself.

Treatment For Pigmentation

With laser toning and Gentle YAG, you may effectively correct sun spots, melanoma, acne scars and pigmentation after child birth. Gentle YAG is a laser treatment specifically targets pigment. It fades skin colourations and diminishes scars.

5. Stretch Marks

A common worry for those of us who loose weight, this is especially seen in weight loss programs as well as mothers.

Things You Can Do At Home

The key to avoid stretch marks is hydration: so make sure you drink a lot of water, vegetable juices and keep up your fruit intake. Apply coconut oil on stretch marks when they’re just starting to appear have also shown results.

Treatments For Stretch Marks

Seek your dermatologists’ advice to suggest a retinoid cream. According to studies, Vitamin A can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Apart from this microdermabrasion (we use a handheld device that blows crystals into the skin) helps remove a fine layer of skin, thereby diminishing stretch marks. Both light and laser therapies at ISAAC Luxe help tackle stretch marks.
